At the X presented by The Faceoff Academy

There’s not much movement on our leaderboard this week, as our top face off men continue to consistently produce wins for their respective teams. However, this season we’ve seen that a game can be won or lost at the X, so be sure to keep an eye on these guys as we move to the second half of the season. Check back each week to see the best FOGOs in the league in “At the X, presented by The Faceoff Academy.”

1. Greg Gurenlian— New York Lizards (111-for-185)

Success at the X is routine for Gurenlian, but last week’s performance was particularly noteworthy. The New York FOGO took his 2,000th career face off, lining up against the only player with more experience at the X, Anthony Kelly. The Lizards got another strong showing from Gurenlian, who finished the night 14-for-25. He has won at least 60% of his face offs in each of the past three seasons, and he’s on pace to do so again this year.

2. Chris Eck— Boston Cannons (98-for-165)

Eck returned to his unstoppable ways last week, taking 25 of 34 face offs from Chesapeake on Saturday night. Those wins were crucial in a tight game, and the Cannons actually had more shots on goal than the Bayhawks despite ultimately losing the game. The fact that winning 73% of his face offs last week wasn’t even his best game of the season speaks to just how strong of a season Eck is having.

3. Anthony Kelly— Denver Outlaws (96-for-177)

The matchup of Kelly vs. Gurenlian, the two best FOGOs in league history, didn’t disappoint, as the two were evenly matched throughout the game. Kelly won 11 of 22 face offs, good enough to keep him in third place on this week’s leaderboard. Next week, he’ll line up against the Bayhawks, who currently rank last in the league in face off win percentage. This could be an excellent opportunity for Kelly to move up our leaderboard and finally crack the top 2.

You can catch these three exceptional FOGOs all in one place at the MLL All-Star Game on Thursday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Historic Harvard Stadium. Click HERE for tickets.
