Ohio Machine at New York Lizards
Saturday, August 10, 7 p.m. – James Shuart Stadium, Hempstead, NY
TV Coverage: ESPN3, Regional Stations
The last place Ohio Machine will be traveling to Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y., Saturday, August 10, to face the New York Lizards at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
It is Heroes Night which will honor first responders and veterans from the tri-state area. The Lizards will wear special heroes’ jerseys which will be signed by the players and auctioned off following the game, with proceeds benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project. The game will close out with fireworks presented by Grucci.
As the League continues to try and improve the way the game is viewed live and on television, the teams will try out two different-colored balls during the match. One half will be played with a white ball while the other half will feature a yellow ball.
The 3-10 Lizards look to defeat the Machine (2-11) to avoid being tied for last place.
The last time these two teams met, on May 18, the Lizards pulled out a 14-8 win over the Machine. Stephen Berger, who was later traded to Boston, led the team with 6 points on 4 goals and 2 assists. Mark Matthews added to Berger’s tallies with 3 goals and an assist himself. Greg Gurenlian dominated the X winning 17of 26 faceoffs while goalie Drew Adams kept the Machine at bay recording an impressive 20 saves between the pipes.
Chazz Woodson led Ohio with 2 goals, while Joe Cummings added 2 points of his own. Eric O’Brien held his own in the faceoff X, winning 8 of 16.
The Lizards are coming off of a six game losing streak but their last effort against the Outlaws showed that the team has not given up yet. If they play similarly to how they played against Denver, it’s very possible they can defeat the Machine. Ohio is coming off its second win of the season, 16-12 over the Boston Cannons last Saturday.
While neither team will feature in Championship Weekend, presented by Smartlink fans will not want to miss this game that could show a glimpse of next year’s rosters for both teams.
