03/21/2007 11:49 AM - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today they have acquired attackman Mike Powell from the Washington Bayhawks. In addition, Boston received midfielder Ben DeFelice and a conditional 2008 Collegiate Draft choice. In exchange, the Cannons sent attackman Conor Gill and defenseman Ryan Curtis to Washington.
This spices up an already intense rivalry between the Cannons and the Long Island Lizards. Long Island opens up their season at home against Boston on May 25 starting at 7 PM. This game will be broadcast Live on ESPN 2 and is the first lacrosse game ever broadcast in high definition. ESPN is pulling out all the stops as during this broadcast they are introducing goalie cams, lacrosse specific shot charts, micd up players and more.
"Mike Powell is a star and to have the opportunity to play against the best on Live national television is a fantastic opportunity," said Dave Kotowski, Lizards President "We are looking forward to seeing our world class defense take on Mike on the biggest stage there is in our sport," added Tim Kelly, Lizards General Manager.
Training camp for the Long Island Lizards begins on April 28.
