Boston (July 27, 2013) - US Lacrosse today announced the 98 players selected to try out for the U.S. Men’s National Team, which will defend its world title at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships on July 10-19, 2014, in Denver, Colo. Tryouts will be held Aug. 30-Sept. 1 at Goucher College in Baltimore, Md.

Major League Lacrosse is well represented with 83 players, including 13 rookies, invited to the event as U.S. head coach Richie Meade will be looking for the best Lacrosse players to represent the U.S. next year. Following tryouts, US Lacrosse will announce the 40-player U.S. men’s national team.

Ten players return to try out from the 2010 U.S. men’s national team that won gold in Manchester, England. Notable returners include 2010 World Championships MVP and Boston Cannons All-Time leading scorer Paul Rabil, All-World performers Brendan Mundorf (Denver Outlaws) and Max Seibald (New York Lizards), three-time U.S. team members Ryan Boyle (Cannons) and Matt Striebel (Rochester Rattlers), and Rattlers attackman Ned Crotty, who scored the game-tying and game-winning goals to clinch the world title for the U.S. in Manchester.

The Chesapeake Bayhawks lead the pack of trialists with 17 players including 2010 U.S. national team member Drew Westervelt, Casey Powell who appeared in two World Championships (’98 and ’06), and rookie Jesse Bernhardt

Boston and Denver follow suit with 13 players each including rookies Scott Ratliff and Brendan Buckley joining Boyle and Rabil in representing the Cannons and MLL leading scorer Chris Bocklet, rookie Eric Law joining Mundorf among others for the Outlaws.

2013 Tewaaraton Award winner Rob Pannell highlights the list of nine New York Lizards invited to try out while rookies John Ranagan and Dave Lawson are among the nine Rattlers who will trying out.

The Charlotte Hounds and Hamilton Nationals both have eight players participating in the tryout with rookies Mike Poppelton, Tucker Durkin and Garrett Thul highlighting the Nationals list and Mike Sawyer joining 2010 returnee Chris Schiller on the list of Hounds invited.
